Be Well – The Art of Living Fully

Living Fully

On a recent cruise I was reminded of the power of appreciation in my life and more poignantly the power I have to choose appreciating life going well in the present moment (living fully).

The cruise director who was a bit of a Welsh comedian was trying to get us to fill in our reviews and encouraging everyone to rate the cruise high. He quipped, “English people never review anything 10 out of 10. After all there is always room for improvement isn’t there?”  It reminded me how slovenly I can be in rating my own day. I was particularly bad when I started, I would see all the things I didn’t get done (an overambitious to-do list) and the disappointments when something didn’t go together perfectly. Is this you or someone you know? Read on to find your way to happier days!

How I started to feel better and be more satisfied by living fully.

I consciously became aware of my tendency to be critical and over-demanding. I have struggled to be more generous, kind, friendly, and compassionate with my expectations and allow myself a “ten” day. It’s amazing the transforming effect it has had on me, when I asked what would I have to do differently to have a “ten” day. This led to the awareness I was setting myself up by not allowing myself to have a ten day when I didn’t accomplish my to-do list, especially when it was out of my control with a more urgent task coming up. In fact I saw that I was quite productive and was getting what was really needed done. I wasn’t far from living fully, I just needed a slight mental adjustment.

Leads to more attraction of what we want in life and living fully.

I was doing the right things I just needed a mind-shift from “critical, never enough” to “I get what is needed done and everything that comes my way is perfect”. As I started to more realistically rate my days and experiences I gradually was able to have nines and even tens and I felt better about my work and became less frustrated leading to more satisfaction and even more productivity. By changing this belief that essentially kept me from ever having a great or perfect day (unless it slipped past my guard), suddenly I had more enjoyment, peace and self-approval.

What does this have to do with living fully, feeling well and healthy?

By changing this belief that it was never enough and enjoying what I did do and flowing with life I felt better, happier and satisfied. I started to live fully in more moments of the day. These are the same mental states that produce true healing and are the basis of our wellness and satisfaction. We have all heard of the damaging effects that stress has on our immune system and our wellness; and perhaps you have heard of the stress reducing aspects of meditation. Meditation as well as the change of beliefs and focus to what make us happy both access these healing and wellness states and allow us to open to greater ease in our lives. In Ayurveda it is known as the right use of the mind and has been recommended for a life of ease, wellness and satisfaction for over 5,000 years. Are you ready to live fully?

What will your choice be, can you stand to live fully?

Could this be something you are doing? Are you consciously or unconsciously choosing not to be happy, not to be well, “not to have peace”, not to live fully or whatever in your life? If it sounds familiar to you; play with changing it for the next thirty days and see if you experience a change. Live fully just by changing your belief and you can have a 10 out of 10 day. Esther/Abraham says there are three keys to experiencing abundance in any area of life: 1) stay in bliss and love, 2) allow others their journey even when you don’t like it (learn equanimity), and 3) the focus of this article “Love your Life as you Live it!” Consider using the following affirmations daily or make them your meditation:

  • I live in ease, wellness and satisfaction.
  • I am well.
  • I am peaceful.
  • I am happy.
  • I am alive and thriving.
  • I am enough.
  • I am perfect the way I am.
  • Only good comes to me.
  • I experience a “ten” day today.
  • I open to great abundance in all areas of my life (health, wellness, love, money, peace, self-esteem).

May you have 10 of 10 days – living fully,

From the N2 (Cape Town towards George) Take the first Swellendam exit (left). This is the R60. Proceed (1km+) through the 4 way stop and continue approximately 2-3 km and look for a sign for the Hermitage. Make a hard right (270 degrees). After the turn continue about 200 meters and turn left at first road (dirt). Proceed 300 meters and turn left into Red Roan Ranch and go to bottom of hill (the main house).
