Next Step Teach Another, Help Someone Else

Working with fear for ourselves, sometimes the answer’s revealed as we teach another to help them. I faced my own writer’s block this month and had an interesting talk with a guest where I advised them how to go through their indecision and found it was the advice I needed but already knew.

Yesterday, I was struggling with a blank chapter for my RESET lifestyle and 21-day program. I was stuck, the emotion when I finally looked at it (the next day) was “wishy washy.” Uncertain how to proceed (mild fear), didn’t have a convenient answer or solution, and was stuck in trying to do it “right” that nasty perfectionism raising its head.

Synergistically, I had a conversation with a guest that was having trouble determining, perhaps screwing up their courage to do what they already knew was the next step. At the time, I didn’t recognize how the Universe was mirroring to me a similar situation, the guest’s situation, and my momentary hesitation to step forward on the next step that I had already pretty much decided on.

Teach another how to deal with a minor fear and you’ll handle your fear better.

I did my best to help my guest see the possibilities and give them hope for a brave new future (future casting I like to call it) that they were about to experience. As the hero of Dune recalls:

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has passed, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” – Frank Herbert

I indirectly started answering my own quandary as I helped teach another.  Showing them to not buckle to the fear. Learn to release judgment that they were not courageous enough. Avoid frustration that they spent years (of their life) struggling with these issues and still don’t seem to have learned how to step forward.

We each have a unique journey and a unique answer that only our journey illuminates at the proper time. A perfect answer that exists outside you that others grasp but you don’t seem to get is not the truth. There is a gift at the end of this path, that you will discover and will inspire others as you share it.

I proceeded to cast a better future for my guest: Move boldly forward to explore, into the uncertainty. Open a likely door forward, don’t worry that it is the best “perfect solution.” The act of proceeding – the simple but hard and courageous step forward (“Just Do It!) past the indecision and procrastination leads to a new vantage point. It’s like being lost in a thick forest and climbing a tall tree that shows you where the unseen path is and your answer. By trying what comes up and trusting it will start us forward again – often it gets us moving again to break our brain fog, our procrastination, and to see the path in the unknown.

Teach another to breakthrough to learning yourself

The way through uncertainty, lack of previous experience and not knowing a solution is through the unknown and it involves experimentation, evaluation (learning), and refinement (if it’s the wrong door, backtrack, and trying a different door or path).  Nothing is really lost except the illusory loss of time which modern science says is only a mental construct. Life even lived simply is a creative act – we don’t know what the future holds and must dynamically choose and create our life moment to moment.

Thomas Edison is said to have tried over 1000 different filaments to find the carbon filament that allowed him to invent the carbon filament light bulb. Are you brave enough, trusting enough, courageous enough to know that you must keep acting on your desire to break through from uncertainty to find your way to wisdom and knowingness?

I sure don’t have everything figured out, but I know if I bumble around in the jungle long enough and trust I am supported and will be led forward. I know the next step (logical at least for that moment and point in life) will come to me. And that is what makes life exciting. If we knew everything and didn’t have to explore and discover our path through life, I think life would be boring.

Teaching another shows me the way

When I returned to my writing, I was not immediately clear but went back to review the facts and ideas I wanted to incorporate in my chapter and found a set of myths I had highlighted about diet and lifestyle that gave me clarity on what I wanted to write about. My next step forward was clear but the next task of my day demanded attention.

Later that evening and in morning reflection today, I reflected and wrote about my learning and realization about my own procrastination and what I had learned in trying to help my guest. I hope that my words helped them somewhat and thank them and the Universe for showing me my next step. I am so grateful that teaching another, socializing and trying to be of help, also fuels our own learning.

Working and sharing with others helps each of us do better in life

I realized that another’s plight often mirrors my own, sometimes people tell me you must know the next step or be courageous, but I feel I am not privy to the answer– I think we all have this uncertainty, and life is making our way through these tests that help define our character. Interacting with others and offering our compassion and help may, as it did this time for me, provide our next step and solution. As a boon, you may help someone else and that always makes me feel good.

Luke Chan, the director of the medicine less hospital formerly in Beijing, was ask if a woman, who had been healed of an inoperable tumor in real time by three skilled healers visualizing and seeing her in a state of perfect health, could have healed herself?

He answered: (paraphrased) “In all probability she could have … you know we humans are strange … We seem to do better in community … when others help and share our process we do better”

Teach another and share and maybe you’ll do better

Where can I (or you) help another, or teach another, and perhaps help ourselves along the way?

We are so miraculously connected through the web of life (what modern physics calls the field and religion called the void or underlying fabric of creation).

Simply keep on keeping on, persistence – the spirit energy of the baboon, that breaks us through to a breakthrough not a breakdown.

We all experience fear; it’s part of life and helps us see the need for change. I face fear and terror, sometimes, of the blank page when I write or even sit down to process the day with my blank journal. I head into the unknown (my unaccounted life or untold stories and books) sometimes boldly but more often bumbling as best as I can and it can be messy (often) or glorious (rare). What is often so important is to stay true to the practice (and Just Do It!).

Teach another help them practice this secret.

I carry on because it’s the practice and I know doing it daily is important. The vision of what I want to leave and produce in the world keeps me going as the brave explorer, experimenter in life that I am. And lo, the right words, the soothing comments, the helpful article, useful cookbook, or seminar comes from my pen and I share it with my friends and the world. I hope to produce good works and know it’s in the continual effort to try, explore, learn, refine and try again that I reach my goal.

Great Creativity, Energy, Well-Being, and Joyous Celebration of Life throughout 2025!

From the N2 (Cape Town towards George) Take the first Swellendam exit (left). This is the R60. Proceed (1km+) through the 4 way stop and continue approximately 2-3 km and look for a sign for the Hermitage. Make a hard right (270 degrees). After the turn continue about 200 meters and turn left at first road (dirt). Proceed 300 meters and turn left into Red Roan Ranch and go to bottom of hill (the main house).
