Magical Japan reminds me of my Porto Purging and cleansing revelation.

Travel takes us by surprise yet again as we head to Magical Japan. Rest, rejuvenation, insights, cultural renaissance, and renewal.

Our travels last month in Japan where spectacular seeing one of the most populous cities in the world (Tokyo), magical Onsen’s (hot springs), the dancing red crowned cranes, the sumo wrestlers, temples and mountains, snow, Mt Fuji, and Russia across the sea from Hokkaido.

Magical Japan begins at the Onsen (hotspring)

One of my favorite experiences was at the many Onsen’s we visited. See an example (we were not allowed to take photos inside) at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onsen. They even have one that hosts macaques, although we didn’t visit it https://www.japan-guide.com/e/e6028.html.

Magical Japan Pilgrimage

We flew into Tokyo, one of the mostly densely populated cities in the world. Here we found mythical creatures on the archways, Shinto temples in the city, statues, sumo wrestling, udon and many people.

As we travelled to Japan’s far northern island Hokkaido, we stayed in a wonderful hotel that had their own private Onsen for our use in the basement. A great bonus in many of the hotels or guest houses in Japan. There is a great one in the AKA hotel in Yokohama next to the port.

In the far north they have population of red crown cranes that breed and flourish in the cold marsh lands of this national park, mountains and snowfields of Japan’s northernmost island. These birds have a unique mating dance that is quite a show early in the spring.

Coming back to Honshu the main island we walked to some of the temples that celebrated poet Baisho visited, celebrated cherry blossoms, visited Sendai, explored a crater lake, Shinto tori gates, bamboo forest and rich city life.

Magical Japan Pilgrimage 4

Leaving Yokohama harbor we cruised around Japan to Kobe and Osaka then visited Korea where we saw a temple wedding, burial mounds, tombs, bells and had a Korean feast.

Magical Japan Pilgrimage 5

Arriving back in Yokohoma, we visit the Japanese Icon Mt. Fuijisan and say a fond farewell to Japan.

Magical Japan and my insight.

We enjoyed the Japanese scenery and people immensely a wonderful cultural renaissance after the Japanese defeat in World War II. The country has rebuilt itself as one of the cleanest, newest cities and a world class economy and goods.

An interesting observation we found was how clean almost to the point of obsession the cities and people of Japan were. Yet we struggled to find trash cans to throw away our trash. It turns out that they pay for garbage removal and there are few public trash cans.

The attention to cleanliness and ultra clean functional houses, buses, etc. reminded me of my Porto revelation where I realized I was to purge my life. The ultraclean and functional cities just might be a further extension to simplify, purge and clean in all aspects of life.

Revel in your life and rejuvenate regularly to rest and antidote our modern intense active lifestyles.

Have a great month,

Jim Montrose

From the N2 (Cape Town towards George) Take the first Swellendam exit (left). This is the R60. Proceed (1km+) through the 4 way stop and continue approximately 2-3 km and look for a sign for the Hermitage. Make a hard right (270 degrees). After the turn continue about 200 meters and turn left at first road (dirt). Proceed 300 meters and turn left into Red Roan Ranch and go to bottom of hill (the main house).
