THE TRUTH ABOUT CARBOHYDRATES with Dr. Rivene
Listen, there is a big surge on having a low carbo diet. Restaurants, grocery markets, fast-food chains cater to this belief that to stay beautiful and slim and athletic you need a low –carbo diet. Especially beer and soft-drink companies, spend millions of dollars developing and marketing low-carbo, sugar-free drinks. Everyone is trying to capitalize on this trend, and is it healthy, ‘nie healthy nie’.
Carbohydrates are compounds made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen, and they are vital and absolutely needed to provide glucose energy for brain and body. Without them we would feel like little zombies with nowhere to go. When we eat food, our bodies turn carbohydrates into glucose blood sugar for immediate energy and the rest is stored in little glycogen packets for reserves later in the day. There are two types of Carbos: simple and complex. Simple carbos are as nutritious as eating toilet paper. They are mostly made of simple sugar molecules which release too quickly and violently leaving you in a ‘sugar high’ and then you start crashing leaving you hungry again, so you eat more. Simple carbos are all your white breads, white rice, white pasta, white flour , white sugar and most processed foods. They are white because all the quality natural nutrients, vitamins, and minerals have been stripped away to achieve that color and texture change. This digestion process for white sugar junk food turns them into an alcohol in the blood stream so the body thinks it has had a drink. No wonder you feel off, irritated, nervous, moody, grumpy, with simple carbo diets. So pay attention to how you feel when you eat simple white carbohydrates.
Complex carbos are comprised of starch and fiber and release gradually, providing a steady source of energy. They make you feel full and satisfied and are easily broken down to release a bio-rhythmic flow of energy, that sustains and contributes to your mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Yea!! These are your fruits, you heard me, fruits, all fruits, the most perfect food in existence, because it is the only food not, nie, digested in the stomach. It is held in the stomach for 15 minutes and then it flows into the small intestine where all the enzymes, vitamins, fiber, minerals, fatty acids, amino (proteins) acids, and cancer-fighting tannins and flavonoids are absorbed. Because fruit is mostly water, it hydrates the body and aids in cleansing, detoxifying and eliminating. Read “Fit for Life” by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond, they wrote the book 30 years ago and it is still great! Eat fruit by itself on an empty tummy, do not mix it with any other food, then it is forced to stay in the stomach and attacked by gastric juices and it will ferment. So fruit by itself and wait 20 minutes if you want to eat some other food.
The other complex carbohydrates are all grains, legumes, such as potatoes, brown rice, lentils, beans, millet, couscous, and pasta made from brown rice, whole wheat, or vegetables. Now you know the truth about carbohydrates, so enjoy complex carbohydrates, dump the processed carbohydrates and enjoy life. So relish in your greater choices for healthy eating, and remember who you really are, an exalted soul in an herbivore body made by God.
