21 day Meditation Challenge
Increase Peace, Calm, Spaciousness, and Remove Mental Toxins by Jim Montrose
May 31, 2021
Physical impurities in the cells impair our physical body and the mind has its own equivalents of fear, anger, greed, compulsiveness, and other negative emotions. Theses emotions create stress hormones linked to many chronic illnesses. They also produce a morphogenic field that attracts and holds unwanted energies and experiences in our lives. In the science of Ayurveda we call these mental ama (or waste products) and employ several methods including the proper use of the mind and meditation to purify the mind and restore the flexibility and freedom of the unencumbered mind.
By spending time in meditation you connect to the true self, where the mind can heal itself. This time spent slowing down and looking within helps you to see yourself and the world we live in more clearly and accurately. Over time you also deepen your connection to others as you touch on the unity and oneness of all the universe—beyond mind, intellect, and ego. Ultimately you reach the realization that you are the Universe, and that you and everything around you flows harmoniously together in the dance of creation (of your own making).
In meditation you patiently observe your thoughts and sensations. You become aware that thoughts come and go like the clouds and even if you try to stop thinking new thoughts are always coming only to be replaced by still newer thoughts. This is the impermanence of all experience and life. In meditation, we don’t try to stop the thoughts instead we learn to watch from a place of equanimity (gentle observing without reacting with aversion nor craving) and in the moment. The NOW is where we connect with our Higher Self, with our Essence. Being aware is to witness your thoughts, emotions, actions, and the world with non-attachment. Meditation is the direct route which takes you into Pure Awareness and your door to Cosmic awareness and wisdom. Experience it for yourself at our June meditation challenge.
Benefits
With meditation, the physiology undergoes a change and every cell in the body is filled with more prana (energy). This results in joy, peace, enthusiasm as the level of prana in the body increases. Meditation improves both physical and emotional responses to stress.
On a physical level, this includes:
- Lowers high blood pressure
- Lowers the levels of blood lactate, reducing anxiety attacks
- Decreases any tension-related pain, such as, tension headaches, ulcers, insomnia, muscle and joint problems
- Increases serotonin production that improves mood and behavior
- Improves the immune system
- Increases the energy level, as you gain an inner source of energy
Meditation brings the brainwave pattern into an Alpha state that promotes healing. The mind becomes fresh, delicate and beautiful. With regular practice this results in:
- Anxiety decreases
- Emotional stability improves
- Creativity increases
- Happiness increases
- Intuition develops
- Clarity and peace of mind re-emerge
- Problems become smaller
- Meditation sharpens the mind by gaining focus and expands through relaxation
- A sharp mind without expansion causes tension, anger and frustration
- An expanded consciousness without sharpness can lead to lack of action/progress
- The balance of a sharp mind and an expanded consciousness brings perfection
Meditation makes you aware – that your inner attitude determines your happiness.
