Achieve the best the rest of the year
By Jim Montrose Ayurvedic Specialist, October 2023.
Pull out the goals in the 9 areas of your life that you made in January and rate your progress in each of the 9 areas of your life.
The Power Review
For areas that you made progress – celebrate and quantify how much remains to complete the goal by year end.
Are there any blocks in the way for you to finish it?
How will you overcome blocks and challenges to get this done?
Is this still a goal that you want to complete?
Why not finish it if you are jettisoning it?
What is the best path forward in this goal area?
2. For goals where nothing has happened, put on your scientific thinking hat, and become curious and see what you can learn to turn it around, avoid in the future, etc.
What did you do instead?
Did the goal change as you got more information, and you modified it?
If so, does it meet at least align with one of the three magic questions for life desires?
(What do I want to experience? How do I want to grow? What do I want to contribute?)
Is the new path better in terms of satisfying the goal in this area of life?
Are you able to reach more people, your needs, shifting priorities?
Are you being interrupted; how can you schedule uninterrupted time?
Do you need to wake up earlier to get it done or something else?
Is this a good reason and are you on track with the new actions?
If not, what can you do to correct this?
Is there something you can stop working on to give you time to do what you really want to do?
Is it still a priority? Why? Why not?
3. No matter what you have decided:
What are the next steps to achieve as many goals completed before year end?
Schedule the time in your day planner to do the work.
Review the new plan weekly or daily and correct weekly for improved performance.
Make a Plan
Create your plan for the next few months and buckle down and do it. You still have two full months; you’d be surprised what you can really accomplish if you put your mind to it. Make sure you apply it in areas that are important for you. For instance, work your goals around health don’t wait start making small daily improvements in lifestyle, drinking your juices, etc. until you feel the improvement.
My Power Review Example
As I came back from our Portugal Walk, I did this type of a review on several areas of my life, and I realized that I was sort of done with Karate in the way I had been doing it. It still took a few more months of not taking much action or practicing. I missed my goals for exercise, kata practice, and weight; and after my experiences in China, I realize I wanted to explore other forms and practices in the martial arts. We went to the Shaolin Temple and saw a kung fu demonstration and it became clear I wanted more freedom and intensity in my work outs, and I decided to practice on my own. I have added more Qi Gong and am learning a Kung fu practice sequence that I like.
Sometimes we need to leave a goal and set a new one in a different area to make progress.
Good Luck and a prosperous and productive remainder of the year,
